why I preferred Gstaad this time instead of St. Moritz….
Luxury and champagne are part of the Alpine regions: the stereotypes in Gstaad and St. Moritz are similar. But apart from snow-covered slopes and luxury shops, the two places don’t have much in common.
“The last paradise in a crazy world” – stories about Gstaad usually begin with this quote from Hollywood diva Julie Andrews. In contrast to the rather pretentious architecture in St. Moritz and the high-rise buildings in St. Moritz Bad, Gstaad is more of a very exclusive and traditional commitment, with inviting wooden architecture.
In St. Moritz you show what you have. In Gstaad, on the other hand, one cultivates a charming modesty with a venerable handling of tradition. In the Engadin people like to gossip about the super-rich in their multimillion building sins on the Suvretta Mountain, while in Gstaad guests are treated with great discretion and confidentiality is a top priority. See and be seen is the motto of St. Moritz, while in Gstaad you remain silent and enjoy.
Conclusion: It’s everybody’s own choice what you might prefer, I spent my time this year in Gstaad to refill my batteries which have been discharged due to Corona.
Addicted to exercise, I have tested everything that Gstaad Tourism has to offer. The picturesque mountain landscape around the Rinderberg / Saanerslochgrat / Horneggli – Zweisimmen / Saanenmöser / Schönried / St. Stephan, offers something for every winter sports enthusiast. Starting the week with heli-skiing was arguably the best decision I could make. Monday morning at 8 o’clock the mountain team of the Alpinzentrum – Air Glacier awaited us at the Gstaad Saanen Airport and on top of the mountain fresh Champagne Powder snow. An unbelievable experience. On the following days, I tried skating on the cross-country ski trail in Schönried and snowshoeing. An ascent on touring skis also brought me closer to the Mountain world. The Hotel Arc-en-Ciel offered everything to make my stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible.
BMW Switzerland made it possible for me to test drive their new X7 – xDrive30 d model. The ride in the luxury SUV was pure fun. The X7 is the elegant fusion of presence and personality. Despite its imposing appearance, it appears light and agile thanks to its puristic and athletic design. The significant amount of space in the interior, a pioneering interplay of exclusivity and functionality, offered plenty of space for all the equipment and an amazing, unforgettable easy ride especially on snow.
